2012 Training Update

Friday, 17 February 2012

The schedule has been updated and let me assure you it’s a challenge! The intention for these next few weeks is to have common age groups training together and for teams to be negotiated. Once the teams are settled, there MAY be some further room for negotiation.

So here we have it for Dennis Road Springwood:

UNDER 7s – Mondays 5:30 -6:30. We have five teams and confirmed coaches for two. This is a great age to coach and doesn’t require a lot of experience or knowledge around football. Training is very much play based, and there is an abundance of material I can pass on to help out. Three more coaches needed.

UNDER 8s – Thursdays 5:30 -6:30. We have two teams and almost confirmed coaches for both. This also is a great age to coach and doesn’t require a lot of experience or knowledge around football. Training is still very much play based, and there is an abundance of material I can pass on to help out. Current/prospective coaches would be delighted with any offers of assistance.

UNDER 9s Wednesdays 5:30 -6:30. We have three teams and almost confirmed coaches for all three. Oddly enough, this also is a great age to coach. It’s at U9 that players get introduced to full field 11 a side football. Training begins to focus a little more on technique, and there is an abundance of material I can pass on to help out. Current/prospective coaches would be delighted with any offers of assistance.

UNDER 10s – Mondays 6:30 - 7:30. We have two teams and confirmed coaches for both. OK it’s a little bit late but to get FFA accredited coaches, these are some of the sacrifices we need to make. Our coaches for this age group will continue to focus on technique building on teamwork.

UNDER 11s – Thursdays 5:00 – 6:00. Just one team this year with a confirmed coach AND assistant coach! This is a team to look out for. One of the most PASSIONATE coaches in our club complimented by a greatly admired assistant. I’m predicting this team to be one of the best reflections of what we’re about as a club this year.

UNDER 12s - Wednesdays 6:30 -7:30. Again, just one team this year and not only does this team have a returning coach but this year he will be back as a fully accredited Football Federation Australia Junior Coach. Training for this age is still focussed on technique but as the year progresses a little of insight begins to be introduced.

UNDER 13s – Thursdays 6:00 – 7:30. Just one team here as well and we’re looking for a coach. Most of these guys are returning players and have been coached in all the right things. Looking for a mum or dad who can at least spell the word football in three different languages and... Seriously, if you want to have a crack at coaching and want the club to pay for a 2 week FFA Coaching Licence, email me right away.

UNDER 14s – Tuesdays 6:00 - 7:30. Two teams and two FFA accredited coaches confirmed. What an age group this is. A bunch of guys that have been training together for a few years now by the same two coaches, who continue to play the game at what they would both consider to be a semi professional level! Under 14s is the age where our players are eligible to try out for State rep teams. Plenty of good players here to watch out for!

UNDER 16 BOYS – Thursdays 7:30 – 9:00. Two teams with both coaches almost confirmed. This is where things continue to be pretty serious and combines 14, 15 and 16 year olds in a boys only competition. Offers of assistance will be greatly appreciated.

UNDER 16 GIRLS – Wednesdays 6:30-7:30. Finally we’ve got the numbers to put a team in this relatively new competition, and we have a fully accredited FFA coach with the offer of assistance of another “semi professional” player. This is a first for our club and already the talent we have on the park is looking ever so promising. Look out W League!

UNDER 18s – Wednesdays 7:30 – 9:00. Two teams of strapping young men with two equally strapping coaches. (What does strapping mean anyway?) These guys have an awe inspiring opportunity to play against a team from the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre. The BYDC has been welcomed with open arms by the association to participate in our competition. I’ve spoken with a number of coaches (from Logan and other clubs) who have taken teams to BYDC and I hear nothing but praise for the opportunity to be involved.

SENIOR MEN – Mondays 7:30 – 9:00. For those who want to try out for a position on the elite men’s team, this is where you need to be. Elite men’s training will be moving to Tuesday night and for the rest who are keen to run around for a bit of fitness, Monday nights will be the night.

SENIOR WOMEN – Tuesday 7:30 – 9:00. Looks like we’ve got only one team this year but what a team! Coached by a fully accredited senior FFA coach this team has some of the best players in our club. Looking forward to seeing some silver wear this year and ladies, I’m not talking about jewellery!

OVER 30s – Monday nights 7:00 – 8:45 (at Oates Park Woodridge). Some would say this is the penultimate level within the association. Many of the club’s elite/semi professional CHOOSE to ply their trade in this team. Coached by a Kiwi and he’s not a bad bloke but the team manager is nothing short of exceptional. She takes full responsibility for managing the team’s dietary requirements throughout the season (well on Fridays anyway) and is one of the fetching figures in an orange hi vis vest that you’re ever likely to see.

OVER 40s - Monday nights 7:00 – 8:45 (at Oates Park Woodridge). Players on this team are often confused with players such as George Best, Eric Cantona, Maradona, Roberto Baggio. Some would say that given their combined age, the first seven words of the preceding sentence would suffice. One team at this stage but waiting lists are frequently updated!

A reminder to all players, that it is a requirement of the association’s insurance provider that players are required to wear shin pads while training and players must be registered with the club prior to training.

Thank you for your ongoing support and here’s looking forward to fantastic 2012.

Have a GREAT weekend all!
